Request for a certified copy of a patent

Use this form to request a certificate of the Comptroller or a certified copy from a file or the register.

Details

A certified copy is an official document, also called a certificate of the Registrar. You need a certified copy to:

  • register a piece of intellectual property (IP) outside the UK

  • prove legal ownership of IP, such as in a court case

Check if you need an uncertified copy instead.

Use a separate form for each patent application or patent.

All Intellectual Property Office fee bearing forms should be filed with the appropriate fee.

Cost

It costs £27 to request a certified copy of a document. You can upload the form to your intellectual property account or post it. Instructions are on the form

Certified office copies do not include grant or registration certificates.
