Privacy notice of request for information on substances proposed as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) 2022

The personal data we will be collecting are names, including company and organisation names, email addresses and telephone numbers (if provided) and information relating to adverse effects resulting from long-range transport of chlorpyrifos (as specified in Annex E of the Stockholm Convention), information relating to long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids, their salts and related compounds (as specified in Annex F of the Stockholm Convention), and information relating to chlorinated paraffins with carbon chain lengths in the range C14 to C17 and with chlorination levels at or exceeding 45 percent chlorine by weight (as specified in Annex F of the Stockholm Convention).

It will be used to assess whether the UK wishes to add comments to any draft Risk Profile or Risk Management Evaluation documents during the intersessional period ahead of the next Persistent Organic Pollutant Review Committee (POPRC) meeting in October (9 to 13 October 2023).

The legal basis for collecting your personal data is that processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which Defra is subject, under Article 6, paragraph 1(c) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The legal obligation is provided by Article 15 of The Persistent Organic Pollutants (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 which requires the Secretary of State to seek comments from interested parties.

Who will my data be shared with?

Data provided will be published on GOV.UK approximately 2 to 6 months after the date for commenting closes. Comments will only be attributed to a name or organisation. All other personal data will only be shared with other members of the internal Defra group stakeholders.

Can I opt out?

You can opt out at any time. To opt out email POPs@defra.gov.uk and your personal data will be deleted.

What will happen if I opt out?

If you choose to opt out, you will no longer be able to take part in providing comments on the potential UK proposal.

1.6 Retention period or criteria used to determine the retention period

Your personal data will be kept by us for 5 years in line with our standard information retention policy or until the survey has ceased.

Will my data be transferred outside of the European Economic Area (EEA)? If it will, how will it be protected?

The data you provide will not be transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
