Resilience of rail infrastructure: final report

Details

The report was commissioned by the Secretary of State for Transport after the Stonehaven tragedy in August 2020. Three people died when a passenger train hit a landslip and derailed while travelling through bad weather near Carmont, Aberdeenshire.

The report includes more than 50 recommendations to safeguard the country’s rail network from extreme weather and climate change. It in no way pre-empts the outcome of formal independent investigations.

The document builds upon the Resilience of Rail Infrastructure interim report, which was commissioned by the Transport Secretary immediately after the Stonehaven incident and published in September 2020.
