The government welcomes the report by the House of Lords Select Committee on the Arctic: Responding to a Changing Arctic.

The UK is one of the most active non-Arctic states in Arctic affairs. While the government believes the approach it has adopted towards the Arctic, as outlined in the UK’s Arctic Policy Framework: Adapting to Change, is the right one, it also agrees with the Committee that more can be done to ensure the UK continues to take a leading role in Arctic issues that affect it.

The government is grateful to the Committee for its constructive suggestions on this.

This response outlines a number of steps that the government will take and which demonstrate the government’s commitment to the Arctic and to advancing our scientific, political and economic engagement in the region.
