Details
This revised direction requires the council to continue to take steps to improve its children’s social care services, including cooperating with the DfE-appointed Children’s Services Commissioner to establish an alternative delivery model for its services.
An independent report by the Commissioner for Children’s Services in Reading recommended that services be removed from the council’s control and an alternative delivery model be established.
DfE appointed the Commissioner following a report by Ofsted that judged the overall effectiveness of Reading’s services to be inadequate.
This direction replaced the earlier statutory direction issued to the council in September 2016.
This direction has closed and a revised direction issued by DfE on 3 December 2018 replaces it.
