How operators should endeavour to protect people and the environment by minimising the generation of radioactive waste, minimising the amount of radioactive waste that has to be discharged into the environment, discharging that waste in ways that minimise the resulting radiological impact on the public and protect the wider environment, and using the optimal routes for disposal of solid waste.
