Richard William Johnson, Janet Mary Johnson and Mark William Johnson of Hobkin Ground Farm, Broughton Mills, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA20 6AU have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from Appletree Worth Beck at Broughton Mills, Broughton-in-Furness, Cumbria at National Grid Reference (NGR) SD 23675 91806.
The application is to abstract water as follows:

1,040,688 cubic metres a year

at an instantaneous rate of 55 litres per second
All year.
All of the water abstracted will be used for hydropower generation with a 10 kilowatt Turgo type turbine and will be returned to the River Lickle at NGR SD 23289 91720.
Further details are: the proposal includes a new intake structure with a 2 millimetre coanda-type fish screen, a bywash, a penstock pipe and a minimum prescribed flow to help maintain the ecology of the deprived stream channel. After the turbine the water, protected by a 3 millimetre fish screen, will be returned to the river via a new cascade structure.
