The notice
Announcement of intention not to prepare an environmental statement: Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783.
The work
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement work to the flood defences on the River Ouse in Riccall between Lake and Orchard Care Centre, Riccall Lane (NGR SE 60885 38184) and Wheel Hall Farm (NGR SE 60944 38143), a distance of 0.06 kilometres. The proposed improvement work will involve approximately 60 metres of piling through the centre of the earth flood embankment to prevent embankment slippage.
Intention not to prepare an environmental statement
The Environment Agency considers that the improvement work is not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of it. With reference to Schedule 2 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations, as well as the characteristics of the improvement work, the location of the improvement work and the type and characteristics of the potential impact, it is considered that the proposed work will not have a significant effect on the environment.
The work covers a limited extent, within the footprint of an existing flood defence and on agricultural land. The river will not be impacted. Construction impacts to the area are considered to be minimal and temporary.
An ecological survey has been conducted. An Environmental Action Plan has been produced which sets out various measures to mitigate any possible impact to the environment. A copy of these documents can be obtained by emailing yorkfloodplan@environment-agency.gov.uk and Enquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement work should do so, in writing, by 16 January 2023.
