1. The notice

Announcement of publication of an environmental statement (Regulation 10 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 as amended by SI 2005/1399 and SI 2006/618.

2. River Parrett dredge: Northmoor pump station to Linden Farm

The Environment Agency gives notice that an environmental statement has been prepared in respect of proposed improvement works to the flood defence on the River Parrett between:

  • Northmoor pump station (NGR ST33187 33068) and
  • Linden Farm (NGR ST32502 33804)

The proposed improvement works will involve removal of the silt that has accumulated along up to 1km stretch of the River Parrett downstream of Northmoor Pump Station to increase flow capacity. The section identified for dredging is immediately downstream of previous dredging works undertaken in 2014.

The one-off capital dredge will generally be along a single bank and it is estimated that approximately 14,000 cubic metres of silt will be removed. All dredging works will be undertaken by mechanical plant, either from pontoons within the rivers or, along a short length, from the river bank. Works are currently programmed between March 2016 and July 2016, however the speed of progress will be determined by the weather, river levels and the actual quantity of silt to be removed.

You can inspect the environmental statement 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, at:

If no representations are received in respect of the environmental effects of the proposal within this time period, then the proposal will proceed to be implemented. It is anticipated that works will commence in March 2016.
