How to find the lock
Address: Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 3NW.
From the A415 (Abingdon to Dorchester road), turn east towards the council car park. Follow the access road to the lock. This route is marked on the map with a green dashed line.
From Abingdon, cross the river at Abbey Meadows using the weir walkway. Follow the path across the island to the lock.
Facilities
There is car parking at the lock available for blue badge holders. Please speak to the lock keeper in advance to check availability.
Other users may park in the public car park on the A415 south of Abingdon Bridge (approximately half a mile from the lock). You may also park in Abingdon where local restrictions permit (approximately a mile from the lock).
Toilets are available at the lock.
Where to fish
There are three fishing areas at Abingdon Lock. These areas are marked in red on the map.
Towpath
You may fish from the towpath upstream of the lock or immediately downstream of the lock. These areas are available between 31 October and 14 March only.
Island upstream
Cross the lock gates. You may fish in the weir channel upstream of the weir. This area is available between 31 October and 14 March only.
Island downstream
Cross the lock gates. You may fish in the weir channel downstream of the weir. This area is available 16 June to 14 March.
This area will be closed if we have issued red caution strong stream advice for Culham reach between Abingdon and Culham locks. You can check current river conditions on GOV.UK.
