How to find the lock

Address: Sandford on Thames, Oxfordshire, OX4 4YD.

From the A4074 (Oxford to Reading road), turn onto Henley Road to access Sandford on Thames.

From Kennington, follow The Avenue south and turn left on to Sandford Lane. From Radley, follow Kennington Road north and turn right on to Sandford Lane. From Sandford Lane, cross the footbridge to access the lock.

Facilities

There is no car parking at the lock.

You may park at the car park at the end of Sandford Lane. You may park in Sandford on Thames where local restrictions permit.

No toilets are available at the lock.

Where to fish

There are three fishing areas at Sandford Lock. These areas are marked in red on the map. The routes to them are marked on the map with a green dashed line.

Sandford Weir

From the lock, follow the towpath north and upstream. Turn left to follow the side channel. You may fish from the weir walkway.

You need a key from the lock keeper to fish in this area.

Weir stream

From the lock, follow the towpath south and downstream. You may fish from either bank of the weir stream. From the lock side of the footbridge, you must only fish upstream of the bridge. On the south side of the footbridge, you may fish upstream or downstream of the bridge.

Day fishing area

From the lock, follow the towpath south and downstream. You may fish in the main river from the end of the island.

Day tickets are available. However, permit holders do not have to pay the day ticket charge.

This area is available between 31 October and 14 March only.
