Details

This independent review provides an assessment of how well government departments are including rural issues in policy making and decision taking (known as rural proofing). It highlights some important areas where simple changes can be made to strengthen rural proofing efforts.

Defra commissioned Lord Cameron and his review team to conduct this independent national review. It was set up to assess government departments’ rural proofing activities, since publication of Defra’s rural proofing guidance. In 2012 Defra published the Rural Statement which reaffirmed government plans to put rural interests at the heart of decision making. The statement included a commitment to independently review national rural proofing efforts.
