Rye Golf Club Company Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is to vary licence serial number 9/40/06/0180/G which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising gravels at National Grid References TQ 94228 19603 (Point A), TQ 94731 19192 (Point B) and TQ 93370 20052 (Point C) at Rye Golf Club, Camber Rye, East Sussex.

Licence 9/40/06/0180/G allows abstraction of water from Points A and B for spray irrigation between 1 April and 31 October in each year. Licence 9/40/06/0180/G also allows abstraction of water from Point C for filling a storage reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation between 1 November and 31 March in each year.

The variation to licence 9/40/06/0180/G applied for is to allow the abstraction of water from Point C for spray irrigation purpose between 1 April and 31 October in each year at the following rates.

  • 36 cubic metres an hour
  • 204 cubic metres a day
  • 10,000 cubic metres a year

This variation will also increase the existing aggregate yearly quantity with the licence serial number 16/176 from 30,000 cubic metres per year to 40,000 cubic metres per year and extend the current time limited variation on the licence from 31/03/2025 to 31/03/2028.

The second application is to vary licence serial number 16/176 which authorises the abstraction of water from Northpoint Sewer at Rye Golf Club, Camber Rye, East Sussex, for filling a storage reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation, between 1 November and 31 March in each year.

The variation to licence 16/176 applied for is to increase the existing aggregate yearly quantity with the licence serial number 9/40/06/0180/G from 30,000 cubic metres per year to 40,000 cubic metres per year and extend the current time limited variation on the licence from 31/03/2025 to 31/03/2028.
