The UK wants to prevent and better respond to sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment (SEAH) linked to international development work. Doing so requires sustained leadership and culture change in all organisations across the aid sector. Since early 2018 the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has been coordinating international efforts on safeguarding, including by convening the Cross-Sector Safeguarding Steering Group (CSSG).

The CSSG includes representatives from all 8 groups or organisations that made commitments at the October 2018 London summit, and a ninth group who made related commitments in 2019. The CSSG is an informal and safe space for organisations to share experiences and coordinate international efforts on safeguarding. This CSSG annual progress report outlines progress, challenges and the highlights of its members’ work on safeguarding against SEAH between November 2020 and October 2021.
