This report presents the findings from an independent evaluation of the Safer Streets Fund Round 1. The fund consisted of £25m made available in 2019 to 2020 to tackle acquisitive crime in disproportionately affected residential areas via situational crime prevention interventions.

The evaluation included a quantitative impact evaluation, which examined the initial impact on acquisitive crime and residents’ perceptions of their local area in funded versus comparable non-funded areas. Whilst the qualitative process evaluation identified the key drivers and barriers of successful delivery whilst providing intervention level insights, through interviews and case study research.

There was minimal evidence of any immediate impact on acquisitive crime from the programme, but wider benefits – relating to residents’ perceptions of crime and policing - were found.
