This document sets out rules about the re-sit opportunities exam boards must provide following the last scheduled sitting of GCSEs (graded A* to G). It sets out separately the rules for:

  • Maths and English GCSEs - where re-sit opportunities must be made available in both November 2016 and summer 2017
  • Science GCSEs - where re-sit opportunities must be made available no later than summer 2018
  • All other GCSEs - where re-sit opportunities are not required, but may be made available in the year following the last scheduled sitting.

This document was originally published in June 2016, and revised in August 2016. The August 2016 version introduces new provisions (paragraphs 6, 20 and 28) which allow for late awards.
