The Secretary of State for Education has written to accept Professor Smith’s recommendation that the new geography A level should be introduced for first teaching in schools from 2016.

Professor Mark E Smith, who is leading the review of A level content, wrote to the Secretary of State to make this recommendation. This is in light of evidence from the recent consultation on A level content, which suggested that significant changes are needed to the content to ensure it is high-quality and challenging to properly prepare young people for university study. Both letters are published on this page.
