For local traffic authorities to apply to close a road for a special event under a Section 16 temporary traffic regulation order.

Details
Local traffic authorities must obtain the Secretary of State for Transport’s approval to make a special event order where:
- the order is to continue in force for more than 3 days
or
- the affected length of road has already been subject to a section 16A order in the same calendar year
Traffic authorities should seek approval a minimum of 4 weeks in advance of the proposed event. They are required to send the following to the National Transport Casework team at the Department for Transport:
- completed application form
- draft order
- public notice (draft or final) if available
- plan of the affected area
- copies of any representations received and the traffic authority’s response
