Details

This report presents qualitative research findings on the views and experiences of participating employers and DWP customers. It also includes findings on the views and experiences of DWP staff and training providers involved in delivering the programme.

Research background

SWAPs are government-funded opportunities to help prepare those receiving unemployment benefits to apply for jobs in different areas of work. This DWP scheme is administered by Jobcentre Plus in partnership with employers and learning providers. SWAPs are designed to help employers recruit a workforce with the right skills to sustain and grow their business.

Contribution to the evidence base

This research compliments management information released by DWP on the delivery of SWAPs.

Research value

Research findings were used to inform DWP conversations with its partners.  As a result, new provider guidance on SWAPs was released on GOV.UK to improve DWP guidance for training providers engaged in delivering the programme.  DWP uses research findings to inform improvements to service delivery.
