This review includes information on our carbon footprint, non-radiological environmental impacts, radiological dose, impacts on groundwater and management of solid waste.
The key points are:
-
direct (scope 1 and 2) carbon emissions were reduced by an estimated 39%, and water usage reduced by an estimated 27% from the baseline set in 2019/20.
-
includes estimated radiological doses to members of the public. It concludes that exposure, even to the most exposed group, remains very low and much lower than the limit for exposure to radiation in the UK.
-
the end of bulk Magnox reprocessing in July 2022 resulted in significant reductions in some reported aerial discharges.
All statutory monitoring and reporting requirements were delivered in accordance with permits, including monitoring of local beaches and the ongoing collation, analysis and reporting of waste discharge and disposal data that underpins our environmental performance.
