Details of the application

Severn Trent Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number MD/028/0015/004 to obstruct or impede the flow of the bypass channel to the Upper Shustoke reservoir at National Grid Reference SP 23 91.

The existing licence authorises the construction of a new bypass channel incorporating a deep slot fish pass. The fish pass was constructed at too low a level (by approximately 750 millimetres). The variation application is to replace the fish pass with a new design that will accommodate the actual head-drop at the site of just under 1.5 metres, as well as improving the resilience of the channel to high flow events while keeping low velocities for fish migration.
