Update: Voting took place on 7 June 2024 for the 2025 to 2029 membership of CEDAW. Professor Choudhry was unsuccessful in her campaign for selection for the Committee.

The Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is the body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The CEDAW Committee consists of 23 experts on women’s rights from around the world.

Professor Choudhry was the UK’s candidate for CEDAW for the 2025 to 2029 term. She is a Professor of Law and the Jeffrey Hackney Tutorial Fellow in Law at Wadham College, University of Oxford. 

Professor Choudhry is dedicated to women’s rights and is a leading researcher on gender, human rights and violence against women. She is an experienced lawyer, and as a Professor of Law worked in the field of gender and human rights. Her research has had a global reach, covering Europe, Asia and South America to date and has been recognised internationally by invitations to present by the Supreme Courts of Mexico and Chile.
