Accessibility statement: SIA licensing site

Updated 29 March 2021

This accessibility statement applies to the Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensing service.

This website is run by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the service using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

1. How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. You can see a full list of any issues we currently know about in the ‘Non-accessible content’ section of this statement.

2. Feedback and contact information

If you need information on this website in a different format like accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille:

We will consider your request and get back to you in 10 days.

4. Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

If you are in Northern Ireland and are not happy with how we respond to your complaint you can contact the Equalities Commission for Northern Ireland who are responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’) in Northern Ireland.

5. Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The SIA is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

6. Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

7. Non-accessible content

The content that is not accessible is outlined below:

  • focused links and buttons sometimes do not have enough contrast - this fails WCAG 1.4.11 AA (Non-text Contrast)
  • users are not warned of the duration of any user inactivity that could cause data loss - this fails 2.2.6 Timeouts (AAA)

Following end-user accessibility testing of the SIA’s public-facing licensing site, the register of licence holders and the internal CRM against WCAG 2.1 criteria, the areas identified for improvement are primarily the following:

  • a user’s ability to navigate when not using a keyboard
  • renaming some links to provide the user with clarity where they direct to
  • users being warned of the duration of any user inactivity that could cause data loss

We will identify and fix issues incrementally as they are identified via a programme of quarterly maintenance releases. We aim to fix all issues by April 2022.

If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.

8. Disproportionate burden

At this time, we have not made any disproportionate burden claims.

9. Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

At this time, we have not identified any content that is not within scope of the accessibility regulations.
