Sibelco UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the sand and gravel aquifer from two areas at Bent Farm Quarry, Congleton, Cheshire between National Grid References (NGRs) SJ 82520 62294, SJ 82737 62298, SJ 82790 62107 and SJ 82533 62140 (defined as Northern Void) and NGRs SJ 82293 61843, SJ 82792 61919, SJ 82796 61628 and SJ 82469 61540 (defined as Southern Void).
The application is to abstract water as follows:
Northern Void:
- 650 cubic metres an hour
- 6,000 cubic metres a day
- 1,412,828 cubic metres a year
Southern Void:
- 650 cubic metres an hour
- 6,000 cubic metres a day
- 1,412,828 cubic metres a year
The water will be abstracted for the purpose of quarry dewatering. Abstraction will take place all year.
