Sibelco UK Limited: applications made to abstract water
Published 31 January 2025
Applies to England
Details of the applications
Sibelco UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The first application seeks to amend licence serial number AN/033/0059/008, which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising sands and gravels at Grandcourt Quarry, King’s Lynn, Norfolk for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to the Middleton Stop Drain via an unnamed drain at National Grid Reference TF 67500 17750.
The proposed variation aims to extend the existing abstraction area to include an additional location that has recently received planning permission. The new abstraction area, which encompasses the existing quarry area and the extension, is defined by straight lines connecting the following National Grid References: TF 67070 16581, TF 69124 16701, TF 69182 16061 and TF 67123 15943. There are no proposed changes to the existing licensed quantities as part of this variation.
The second application is for a new transfer licence that would allow the transfer of some of the abstracted water from the new abstraction area to groundwater via infiltration basins at a maximum rate of 632 cubic metres per day.
Abstraction will take place all year for dewatering purposes.
