Details

The application related to Sita Limited’s existing landfill site at Clifton Marsh near Preston in Lancashire, PR4 0XE. The site already held a permit, under the Environmental Permitting Regulations, to dispose of controlled waste. Separate authorisations under the Radioactive Substances Act allowed disposal of low level radioactive waste at the site. The authorisations, held by sites who consigned waste to Clifton Marsh, had been in force for over twenty years, but our regulatory policy is now that Sita should be permitted in their own right, hence the 2009 application.
