Sizewell C Limited: application made to abstract water

Sizewell C Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from underground strata (sand and gravel deposits – crag formation) at two areas within the following National Grid References:
Area A: TM 47351 64534, TM 47353 64530, TM 47284 64508 and TM 47283 64512.
Area B: TM 47361 64504, TM 47363 64500, TM 47294 64477 and TM 47293 64482.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
Area A: 100 cubic metres an hour, 261 cubic metres a day and 40,378 cubic metres a year.
Area B: 100 cubic metres an hour, 261 cubic metres a day and 40,378 cubic metres a year.
Overall: 200 cubic metres an hour, 522 cubic metres a day and 80,756 cubic metres a year.
Abstraction will be authorised to take place all year but is expected to last a total of 155 days.
The purpose of the abstraction is to dewater a construction area to facilitate dry working conditions. Abstraction will take place within a cofferdam to limit hydraulic connection with the wider groundwater body. Water will be transferred to a water treatment facility and will subsequently be pumped to the Leiston Drain.
