Details of the application

Sizewell C Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from underground strata (sand and gravel deposits – crag formation) at four areas within the following National Grid References:

Area A: TM 45417 63520, TM 45426 63524, TM 45429 63518 and TM 45420 63514

Area B: TM 45427 63501, TM 45435 63506, TM 45438 63500 and TM 45430 63496

Area C: TM 45438 63483, TM 45446 63488, TM 45449 63483 and TM 45442 63478

Area D: TM 45451 63466, TM 45458 63472, TM 45462 63466 and TM 45455 63461

to transfer it to the Leiston Drain at National Grid References TM 45443 63501 and TM 45442 63495 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 18 cubic metres an hour
  • 432 cubic metres a day
  • 30,240 cubic metres a year.

Abstraction will be authorised to take place all year but is expected to last a total of 70 days. The purpose of the abstraction is to dewater construction areas to facilitate dry working conditions.
