This report explains and discusses the methodology used to link the 2006 and 2007 Small Business Surveys to the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR).

It provides insight on how to conduct and quality assure the data matching process. It reports 2 strands of analysis:

  • comparing self-reported turnover and employment estimates to the values contained in administrative data
  • demonstration of an analysis looking at the factors affecting the growth and survival of firms from 2007 to 2014
