This research report adds to the evidence base on the factors that affect the performance and growth of small businesses (those with 10 to 49 employees). It set out to capture business owners’ own views of the obstacles they face.

The study is based on earlier research carried out on the growth of microbusinesses (0 to 9 employees) and replicates much of the approach used in that study.
