This note provides a brief discussion of the methodology used to produce estimates of the number of meters installed and operating during the roll-out of smart meters that are published in regular quarterly statistics releases.

This methodology note is intended to help users understand the assumptions made in the compilation of these statistics and some of the limitations of the data sources.
