Smart Specialisation in England provides a strategic framework for investments in research and innovation funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This framework is required by EU regulation. The document:

• sets out the main priorities for investment
• lists other policies and programmes that support businesses to invest in innovation
• helps Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and their partners to identify opportunities and collaborate across England and beyond
• helps align the activities of European Structural Investment Fund with other research and innovation programmes
