Smith & Sons (Bletchington) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from Hardwick Brook near Gill Mill Quarry, Witney to transfer it to a new proposed wetland at National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 36562 08134 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water up to the rates as follows:
- 3,000 cubic metres a day
- 402,600 cubic metres a year
- For the period all year
The proposal is to divert the normal flow of Hardwick Brook to create throughflow for a wetland to be created on the site of the quarry located adjacent to the brook. Water will be discharged back to Hardwick Brook at National Grid References: SP 36746 07914, SP 37443 07407, SP 37772 07376 and SP 38067 07221 downstream.
