Details

The UK government has committed to build “a vibrant and sustainable UK fishing industry” that is managed to achieve social, economic and employment benefits. However, an evidence gap relating to social impacts was identified during the development of the first tranche of FMPs. This project explores the existing evidence base on the wellbeing outcomes from fishing and to whom they accrue. It presents a conceptual framework linking fishing to wellbeing and a list of potential indicators that could support the MMO to better assess how commercial fishing and its management contributes to wellbeing outcomes.
