Ofsted issued Somerset county council with an improvement notice on 21 November 2013, following an inspection that found child protection services ‘inadequate’. On 27 March 2015, Ofsted judged the council ‘inadequate’ for a second time.

The Children and Families Minister has written to the Leader of the Council informing him that he has appointed a review team led by Dave Hill, Director of Children’s Services at Essex county council. The review team will oversee Somerset’s response to the Ofsted inspection and advise ministers on options for making improvements.
