Designation process: Pevensey Levels, Arun Valley and The Broads Special Areas of Conservation
Published 12 February 2016
Applies to England
Background
The Pevensey Levels, Arun Valley and The Broads were selected as 3 sites to become Special Areas of Conservation (SAC) as important areas to support the little whirlpool ram’s-horn snail.
The snail is only found within grazing marshes that are drained by ditches or dykes. The management of the ditches is of vital importance to the conservation of the species.
Designation process
Consultations were held on the 3 sites before they became fully designated as SACs on 11 February 2016.
The supporting documents for the consultation process are held on the Natural England archive website.
Designation documents
The documents that support the decision to designate each site are the:
- citation - identifying the interests for which the areas were designated
