Details

Spotlight is a data dissemination platform published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID). It’s designed to improve the accessibility and visibility of health statistics for inclusion health groups.

Inclusion health groups include any population group that is socially excluded, particularly:

  • people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping

  • vulnerable migrants

  • Gypsy, Roma and Irish Traveller communities

  • people in contact with the criminal justice system

  • victims of modern slavery

  • sex workers

These groups face multiple overlapping risk factors for poor health, such as poverty, violence and complex trauma. They may also experience stigma and discrimination and are not consistently accounted for in electronic records. These factors can result in significant barriers to healthcare access and worse health outcomes compared with the general population.

Spotlight presents data on 4 main themes:

  • healthcare access and use
  • preventative care
  • health outcomes
  • wider social determinants of health

Each indicator has been carefully selected for its reliability and relevance, undergoing a formal quality assurance process in collaboration with data owners. This ensures that the tool provides accurate and comprehensive insights, with important metadata and graph interpretations clearly communicated.

If you would like to send us feedback on the tool, contact pha-ohid@dhsc.gov.uk and include ‘Spotlight’ as the subject.
