Standards for the Fourth Industrial Revolution: action plan
This joint action plan sets out how government, the British Standards Institution, the National Physical Laboratory, and United Kingdom Accreditation Service will work together to unlock the full potential of voluntary standards to support innovation and enable its swift and safe commercialisation.

The action plan details actions to:
- deploy an agile approach to standards development to respond to the challenges of fast-paced technological change
- accelerate the digitalisation of standards for industries of the future
- upscale engagement with innovators and consumer representatives to boost their participation in standardisation
- strengthen strategic coordination between government and our National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) on future priorities for standardisation
- raise awareness and embed consideration of standards in government policy making
