Heathrow Airport Limited’s north-west runway is the government’s preferred scheme for meeting the need for airport expansion in the south-east of England.

In accordance with the Planning Act 2008 regime for nationally significant infrastructure projects, we are consulting on the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement.

The statement of approach sets out the way in which ministers and officials at the Department for Transport will engage with stakeholders, including the preferred scheme promoter, during consultation on and development of the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement alongside the department’s other aviation and airports-related responsibilities.

This updated statement of approach builds on the February 2017 Statement of approach for the draft Airports National Policy Statement.
