What X% of UK oppositions are undefended?
- between January 2022 and June 2023, we received 12,407 trade mark opposition filings. Over the same period, we received 3,922 defences - which equates to a defence rate of 32%. These calculations are approximate
What X% of oppositions do not reach a final decision?
- over the same period of time, we have issued 1,033 decisions (including trade mark invalidity, trade mark revocation, and registered design decisions). This equates to 8% of all oppositions filed over the same eighteen months – meaning 92% of actions filed have not led to a full decision. Again, these calculations are approximate
What X% of oppositions is proof of use requested?
- we do not collect data on trade mark oppositions that are/are not subject to a proof-of-use request, and so we cannot provide this information
what X% of oppositions end with a hearing?
- over the same period of time, we have held 216 hearings (however, this figure includes trade mark invalidity, trade mark revocation). This equates to 2% filed over the same eighteen months
