Transferring data from 4.0 to the statutory biodiversity metric calculation tool
Updated 6 August 2024
Applies to England
To ensure that your project is still compliant with guidance and that your data transfer is accurate, please read the statutory biodiversity metric user guide in full before attempting to transfer your project from the 4.0 calculation tool to the new statutory biodiversity metric calculation tool.
Complete the start page of the statutory biodiversity metric calculation tool.
Copy and paste your data from the white ‘enter data’ cells from your original metric calculation tool into the statutory calculation tool on a column by column basis. Note that errors may occur where specific entered data no longer complies with data validation in the new metric or until the full dataset has been transferred.
It is recommended to address the following points (see the summary of changes and user guide for more information):
- irreplaceable habitat status must now be recorded for each baseline area habitat
- individual tree area must be recalculated using the updated tree helper and assessment methodology
- the gain site reference must now be filled in for each habitat entered in the off-site tabs
- the habitat ‘felled woodland’ must be replaced with the habitat ‘replacement for felled woodland’ in the post-intervention tabs
- culvert encroachment and strategic significance must be updated in line with new guidance
- ensure that gain sites (if using the calculation tool as an off-site provider) are generating a gain through planning habitat enhancements
Once data has been transferred, confirm that there are no errors, rule breaks or changes to trading summaries or unit results. If there are value changes as a result of the update to the statutory biodiversity metric, then make appropriate adjustments to your project to ensure that trading summaries and biodiversity net gain targets are met. There may be errors or rule breaks in your metric calculation tool until you have entered all data.
