Compliance with the steel procurement guidance
The information from government departments and their arm’s-length bodies covers:
- how much they have procured over the 2019 to 2020 financial year
- how they have applied the steel public procurement guidance (PPN 11/16)
Departments have confirmed that, where applicable, they have fully complied with the guidance when procuring steel for their major projects.
Steel procurement pipeline 2021
The steel pipeline shows how the government plans to use 7.6 million tonnes of steel over the next decade on infrastructure projects such as:
- High Speed 2 (HS2)
- expansion in offshore wind generation
- the maintenance and upgrading of the UK’s motorway network
In December 2017, we published independent research that identified high value market opportunities for UK steel producers, worth up to £3.8 billion a year by 2030. We are encouraging the UK steel sector to invest in their capacity and capability to enable them to grasp these opportunities.
