Details

The STI Prioritisation Framework provides an evidence-based and structured approach to local prioritisation for organisations with responsibility for planning and delivery of sexual health services.

STIs impact different groups in society unequally. Some STIs cause more health problems in certain groups compared to others, whilst some groups face greater barriers to accessing sexual health services. The framework shifts the focus of STI control efforts towards preventing adverse health outcomes and reducing health inequalities.

To inform prioritisation, the documents set out available evidence and outline a three-pronged approach that can be applied locally, considering S (situation), T (target groups) and I (interventions):

  • Situation: assess the needs of the local population and the demand and supply of services
  • Target groups: consider local population groups and infections for prioritisation
  • Intervention: identify, tailor, implement and evaluate the most appropriate intervention for each target group
