Mott MacDonald was appointed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to provide a consistent set of technical data and cost projections for representative electricity storage technologies that have been and will likely be commercially deployed in the future.

The report covers the following technologies:

  • pumped hydroelectric storage
  • compressed air storage
  • thermal energy storage
  • lithium-ion, zinc, and sodium-sulphur batteries
  • flow batteries
  • hydrogen storage
  • new battery technologies
