If you have an ITT offer for an SKE subject that we no longer fund but have not found a provider, call 0800 389 2500 to speak to a teacher training advisor.

Use this course directory to search for current providers of SKE courses.

This guidance is for School Direct lead schools and initial teacher training (ITT) providers that are referring individuals for SKE courses.

The Department for Education (DfE) funds SKE courses in:

  • chemistry
  • computing
  • languages
  • mathematics
  • physics

School Direct is a school-led route into ITT. It is run as a partnership between a lead school, other schools and an accredited teacher training provider.

  1. Removed the University of Sussex and the University of Wolverhampton from the course directory as they are no longer accepting new applicants.

  2. Updated the course directory to remove University of Portsmouth and GITEP SCITT, which are not accepting new applicants.

  3. Updated the course directory to remove AAA Eureka MBITT SKE and the University of Worcester, which are not accepting new applicants. Also removed GITEP SCITT for chemistry, computing, languages and physics. Added the University of Portsmouth's 8-week course in French or Spanish.

  4. Updated the course directory to remove Barr Beacon SCITT, Leicestershire Secondary SCITT, Liverpool Hope University and Lydiate Learning Trust who are no longer offering courses. We have reduced the chemistry and physics courses at University of Worcester to 8 weeks and have removed the computing course at the University of Sussex. We have added the University of Sussex for maths, chemistry and physics.

  5. Updated course directory to remove the following providers, who are no longer offering courses: University of Bedfordshire, Delta Academies Trust, GORSE SCITT, Tes Institute and The Spanish Course.

  6. Updated course directory to remove: North East Learning Trust, St Mary's University, Teach First, University of Brighton, Yorkshire and Humber Teacher Training and University of Birmingham who are all no longer offering courses in chemistry, French, Spanish, mathematics (except University of Brighton) and physics.

  7. Updated course directory to remove the following providers: Birmingham City University, Bradford College, Carmel College, The Polesworth School, University of Chichester and University of Portsmouth. The University of Sussex is no longer offering courses in Chemistry, French, Spanish, Mathematics and Physics.

  8. Updated course directory to remove French from GORSE SCITT under the 'Languages' section.

  9. Added information for candidates who accepted offers in discontinued subjects before 11 April 2024.

  14. 'Teach First' has been added to the directory for 'Biology', 'Chemistry', 'Computing, 'Mathematics' and 'Physics'. The 'Design and Technology' section has also been updated to remove the 'North East Learning Trust' and 'Leicestershire Secondary SCITT'.

  15. GORSE SCITT has been added. URLs for the University of Wolverhampton and Liverpool Hope University, the region for Liverpool Hope University and Yorkshire and Humber Teacher Training, and the course length for North East Learning Trust have all been updated.

  16. The directory has been updated for the 2022 to 2023 academic year with changes to biology, chemistry, computing, design and technology, English, languages, mathematics, religious education, physics and primary mathematics.

  17. Region for Leicestershire Secondary SCITT changed from National to East Midlands. Archway Learning Trust deleted from mathematics, religious education and primary mathematics. AAA Eureka MBITT SKE and Yorkshire and Humber Teaching Training added to primary mathematics.

  18. Updated directory - University of Brighton's biology, chemistry and physics courses are now national and delivered online. Archway Learning Trust is no longer offering a long computing course. University of Brighton's maths course is now national. University of Chichester now offers a medium-length maths course.
