Details

This concept note provides the conceptual narrative to how Defence Support will respond to the strategic direction of the Defence Support Strategy (DSS), the Defence Supply Chain Strategy, the Sustainable Support Strategy and the Support Operating Concept (SptOpC).

Implementation of circular economics is an important step to aid in the evolution of Defence’s current systems into something that better meets its needs. Anticipated benefits include improvements in the resilience and agility of the supply chain, and longer product life cycles resulting in long term value for money.

Defence Support proposes that adopting a circular economy will reduce resource intensity and logistical footprint, improve standardisation and interoperability, improve self-sufficiency of operations, and increase technology sophistication.

This concept note has been developed with a wide range of input from Defence, industry and academic stakeholders.

Who should read this publication

The sustainable circular economics concept note is essential for Support personnel across Defence and is of value to everyone working with and within Defence Support to understand how we must shape our approach to meet the demands of the SptOpC out to 2030.

The operational community and those who are involved in the procurement of Defence equipment and services, planning and risk management of Defence activities need to understand the challenges of support over this time frame. The sustainable circular economics for Defence concept note will provide them with an insight to proposed approaches and processes to mitigate some of these challenges to inform their own thinking and decisions.

The sustainable circular economics for Defence concept note also seeks to inform our national and international partners and allies, industrial partners, small to medium enterprises (SME), academia and other government departments of our conceptual thinking.
