Defra wants to attract several hundred farmers to take part in the first phase of piloting the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme. This is part of the government’s plans for how we will reward future sustainable farming practices, now we have left the EU Common Agricultural Policy.

This will help the public understand Defra’s plans, and explain to farmers how they can get involved.

   This document still gives an accurate overview of the pilot and its intentions, but some details about eligibility, standards and payments are out of date. This update adds warnings throughout to make this clear, and gives links to current guidance.
