The research focused on 3 questions.

How do these school improvement providers:

  • identify the improvement needs of schools and the appropriate solutions to those needs?
  • implement necessary changes in schools in order to achieve sustainable improvement?
  • measure and monitor improvement?

It identified 2 sets of high-level practices, across the sample of multi-academy trusts (MATs) and federations, seen as necessary for sustainable improvement at scale:

  • the five-school improvement ‘fundamentals’
  • the five strategic areas for sustainability

The report explores these practices in detail.

It is for senior leaders and anyone with an interest in school improvement.
