Syndromic surveillance summary: 16 June 2022 week 23

During week 23 there were increases observed in ‘COVID-19-like’ indicators and selected acute respiratory indicators, particularly in adults.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 23, NHS 111 calls and online assessments for ‘potential COVID-19’ increased, particularly in adults aged 15 and over. Cold, flu and sore throat calls also increased in adults aged 15 years and over.
GP in hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 23, GP in-hours consultations for lower respiratory tract infection increased slightly, particularly in adults aged 65 years and over. There was an increase in allergic rhinitis consultations in line with seasonal grass pollen activity, however rates are below seasonally expected levels.
GP out of hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 23, GP out-of-hours contacts for acute bronchitis/bronchiolitis and ‘difficulty breathing, wheeze or asthma’ returned to seasonally expected levels.
Emergency department syndromic surveillance system
During week 23 there were increases in COVID-19-like attendances that were particularly observed across adult age groups. Attendances for acute bronchiolitis/bronchitis decreased during week 23.
Ambulance syndromic surveillance system
COVID-19-like and difficulty breathing ambulance calls remained stable during week 23. Allergic reactions increased, but remain below seasonally expected levels.
