Syndromic surveillance summary: 21 April 2022 week 15

During week 15, ‘COVID-19-like’ indicators decreased.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 15, NHS 111 calls and online assessments for ‘potential COVID-19’ remained stable nationally. Calls and assessments for cough and sore throat increased in those aged 15 years and over, and sore throat remains above expected levels. NHS 111 calls and assessments for diarrhoea increased in week 15, particularly in the 5 to 14 years age group, and remain above expected levels.
GP in hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 15, GP in-hours ‘COVID-19-like’ consultations decreased. Upper respiratory tract infections decreased slightly but increased in adults aged 45 years and over.
GP out of hours syndromic surveillance system
During week, 15 GP out-of-hours contacts for acute respiratory infections continued to increase amongst adults aged 15 years and above. In addition, acute bronchitis increased to expected levels nationally.
Emergency department syndromic surveillance system
During week 15, COVID-19-like emergency department attendances decreased nationally and across all age groups. Pneumonia and bronchitis increased but remain below expected levels. Gastroenteritis attendances decreased nationally but remain above seasonally expected levels. However, increases continued in the 5 to 14 years age group.
Ambulance syndromic surveillance system
Nationally, ‘COVID-19-like’ and difficulty breathing calls decreased during week 15.
